The largest earthquake ever recorded rocked Haiti, Tuesday (12/1/2010), the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, the United States. Earthquake that has broken down and destroyed many buildings and facilities. The whole city is in darkness, thousands of people sitting in the street, they do not know where to go,

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the initial shock earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale and was centered about 10 kilometers west of Port-au-Prince. A depth of 8 kilometers earthquake was recorded as the first large earthquake shaken Port-au-Prince.

Haiti have a population of 9 million people, mostly from low-income among the population, it was later confronted with the political shaking. Most of the buildings in this country do not meet safety standards in anticipation of the possibility of earthquake shocks Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

The number of victims seems indeed difficult to estimate, but the Prime Minister of Haiti Jean Max Bellerive estimated 100,000 residents are confirmed dead. Meanwhile, the bodies of victims who have not managed to escape was evident collected along the way Port Au Prince.

Haiti is a disaster and the worst earthquake. Another injured victim was taken to the hospital using a cart and a stretcher made from the door. Most of them were hospitalized within 100 kilometers from the capital Port Au Prince. In fact, some victims are still left lying dead on the roadside with no one to care. Without adequate equipment, residents dig at the former location of the quake with their own hands. Thursday (14/01/2011), international aid organizations and governments around the world are preparing for a massive rescue effort to help earthquake victims in Haiti.
Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon said the UN would soon issue 10 million dollars to help the rescue effort, while the European Union announced a grant of 4.3 million dollars to this poor country. Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ordered the delivery of aid worth $ 10 million, and also supply as much as 14 tons of food to Haiti.
Inter-American Development Bank and the International Red Cross each agreed to spend $ 200 thousand for food, water, medicine and temporary shelter. The UN World Food Programme said it would blow away the food from El Salvador to prepare food for half a million people. Holmes stated the United Nations will launch a flash appeal to raise more funds for Haiti in the coming days. Ban said the world body would then hold a donor conference to help Haiti recover from the earthquake.
